City of Camas Set to Activate Well 13, While Asking Residents to Adhere to Odd/Even Watering

Officials with the City of Camas Public Works department have announced that Well 13 will be activated May 12, and they’re also asking residents to adhere to odd/even watering days beginning in June.

Starting in June, the City is asking residents to help reduce the amount of water used by voluntarily watering or irrigating their lawns on odd/even days based on address. Residents will water on odd days if their house number ends in an odd number, and even days if it ends in an even number.

The request for water conservation is due to the City's current work to construct a new reservoir in the vicinity of Prune Hill. The Lower Prune Hill tank is scheduled for completion in late July or early August. This is due to the length of time to demo the old tank and install the new one. Unfortunately, this will impact the water supply across certain parts of the City. This modified schedule will ensure that reservoirs are filled to levels which will provide sufficient supply for fighting fires.

In addition, officials also announced that Well 13 will be turned on starting May 12, due to increased demand in the water system. The recent increase in temperatures across the area has required all city wells to be in production. Adding Well 13 will provide the City with additional supply redundancy in case one of the existing wells has to be shut down for maintenance.
