The NPDES Permit requires the City of Camas (City) to comply with rules to protect our water resources ensuring that the stormwater drainage system and facilities are properly operating and maintained. The City sweeps all streets multiple times per year to promote water quality. The City Storm Sewer Systems O&M Manual is used as a guide to maintain the various stormwater components.

Stormwater Design and Construction Requirements

The purpose of design and construction requirements are to protect, maintain and to enhance water quality and the environment for the citizens in the City of Camas (City) as well as comply with government regulations.

The City Municipal Code 14.02 Stormwater Control governs stormwater design. The City has also developed the Camas Design Standards Manual to provide guidance and requirements for the installation of new infrastructure.

NPDES Permit

The City of Camas (City) operates under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology). The NPDES Permit is a set of guidelines that regulates stormwater runoff management of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). The City is committed to protecting water resources and complying with permit requirements.

What is Stormwater

Stormwater is Rainwater!

Stormwater is any precipitation that falls from the sky; such as rain, hail and snow.

The raindrops from the sky keep the Pacific Northwest luscious green.

Rain falls on our roofs and streets and picks up oil, grease and litter as it flows into storm drains and ditches.

Whatever goes down the drains flows to our streams, lakes and rivers.
