Library staff and the Library Board of Trustees have completed work on a new strategic plan for 2023-2026, adopted on November 17, 2022.
The 2023-2026 Strategic Plan was created using input from a community survey completed in 2022. The results of this survey and the full-sized version of the strategic plan can be found in the Supporting Documents below.
The Camas Public Library has undergone many changes since its formation in 1923. The Library has always been beloved by the community! To keep up with demands, the Library rapidly expanded the collection & outgrew several spaces. In the first 17 years, the Library moved into 5 different buildings. This included the first space, a corner of the historical Thayer's Drugstore (this space is now the US Bank parking lot!) Additional locations for the early Camas Public Library include the former City Council chambers (above what is now Cedar Street Bagels) and the O.F. Johnson building.
The Camas Public Library is managed by the City of Camas, by and with the consent of the Library Board of Trustees (Camas Municipal Code 2.44.010). The five trustees adopt bylaws and all policies, rules and regulations for the Library. The board of trustees of the Library has exclusive control of expenditures from monies appropriated for the Library (Camas Municipal Code 2.44.040).
Membership
Five trustees are appointed by the Mayor and subject to confirmation by the City Council.
