Kevin Bergstrom Hired as New Fire Marshal for Camas-Washougal Fire

Following a thorough recruitment process, the City of Camas announced that Kevin Bergstrom will be the next Fire Marshal for the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.

Bergstrom assumed the position effective March 16, and will focus on prevention, education, technical review and community safety.

Bergstrom was selected following a rigorous interview process and will replace former CWFD Fire Marshal Ron Schumacher, who retired in January of 2026 after 12 years in the role.

According to Fire Chief Cliff Free, Bergstrom was the optimal choice for the important position.

Kevin really stood out among the crowd and was the perfect choice for the role,” said Chief Free. “His prior experience as the Deputy Fire Marshal really set him apart, and that knowledge will greatly benefit both communities.”

Bergstrom most recently served as the Deputy Fire Marshal for the CWFD since 2019.  Prior to that, Bergstrom served as a Fire Captain and Firefighter for the CWFD. With over 30 years of experience in fire service and public safety, Bergstrom’s unique background combines hands-on emergency response, leadership and fire prevention expertise. Bergstrom has a bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Administration and is currently completing a master’s degree in public administration.
