Fireworks can add excitement to Fourth of July and New Years Eve celebrations, but it’s important to be respectful of your neighbors while having fun.  The Camas-Washougal Fire Department asks you to communicate your plans and be mindful of your neighbor’s property.  When your celebration is complete, please clean up all debris and dispose of it properly.

Fireworks - Know the Law

  1. Only purchase fireworks from locally permitted, Washington state-licensed stands.
  2. In the city of Washougal, only Safe and Sane fireworks are legal for sales and use.
  3. The use of illegal fireworks, or discharging fireworks outside of the legally permitted dates and times may result in a fine and possible confiscation of your fireworks. The penalties, applicable in both Camas and Washougal start at $250 for the first offense, increasing to a $500 fine for a second offense, $750 for a third offense, and $1,000 for each subsequent offense within a three-year period.

Be Fireworks Safe

  • Always have water available and within reach.
  • Always use fireworks on flat, hard surfaces aawy from buildings, vehicles, dry brush, and bystanders
  • Always keep pets indoors while fireworks are being used in your neighborhood.
  • Always have an adult light fireworks.
  • Always light one firework at a time, and move away quickly after lighting.
  • Always soak used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight prior to discarding. 
  • Always wait 15-20 minutes before picking up a spent firework.
  • Always read, understand, and follow the instructions on each device prior to using 
  • Never relight "dud" fireworks.
  • Never point, throw, or mishandle fireworks.

 

Who to Call for Assistance 

  • Emergency:  If you witness something on fire, or if there is a medical or life-threatening emergency, please call 911. 

  • Non-Emergency:  Reports of illegal fireworks usage can be reported to CRESA by either filling out a form a CRESA.wa.gov, or by calling their call center at 360-597-7888

 

Camas Fireworks Ordinance Goes into Effect Fall 2025

A new Camas Municipal Code prohibiting the sales, purchase, possession, and discharge of aerial shell kits with reloadable tubes, commonly known as mortars, will take effect September 16, 2025.  (Ordinance No. 24-011).
