Statement from Camas Mayor Steve Hogan Regarding the Tragedy at the Nippon Dynawave Facility in Longview
Statement from Camas Mayor Steve Hogan
The tragedy at the Nippon Dynawave facility in Longview has deeply affected communities throughout Southwest Washington. Our hearts are with the workers, families, first responders and everyone impacted by this devastating event.
Having spent much of my professional career working in the steel, paper and wood products industries, I understand firsthand the dedication and pride of the men and women who work in industrial facilities like this every day. These plants are more than workplaces — they are the backbone and the livelihood of generations of families across our communities.
I also know this specific industrial corridor well, having worked in close proximity to the Longview mill operations for many years. Here in Southwest Washington, the industrial community is tightly connected.
The focus must remain on supporting the victims, their loved ones and the emergency personnel continuing recovery and investigation efforts under extremely difficult conditions. We are grateful for the courage and professionalism shown by first responders and plant workers who acted immediately during this crisis.
Today, our community stands united in grief, compassion and support for everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss. On behalf of the City of Camas, I extend our deepest condolences to all those mourning and recovering in the days ahead.
