Camas Library Wants You to “Borrow Big” This Summer
The Camas Public Library is inviting the community to help make room for a major Children’s Library renovation this summer by doing what library users do best: checking out books.
As construction begins in the Children’s Library, staff will be temporarily relocating thousands of books and materials throughout the building. To help create space, the Library is encouraging patrons to “borrow big” by taking advantage of the generous checkout limits available on every library card.
Each library card may check out up to 150 items at a time. Materials checked out to patrons help reduce the amount of shelving space needed during construction while keeping books in the hands of readers.
Books checked out on a patron’s account will continue to renew automatically, up to sixteen times, provided no other patron has requested the item. If an item is placed on hold by another borrower, the Library will simply ask for its return.
“The Library will remain open as usual and our Summer Reading Program will continue just as it has in years past,” said Library Director Connie Urquhart. “We're more committed than ever to helping children stay connected to books and reading throughout the summer.”
As part of that commitment, the Library will continue offering storytimes at the Library and at parks throughout Camas, along with weekly pop-up libraries at Crown Park. Books will be available to check out at each event.
The Summer Reading Program runs June 13 – Aug. 15. The Children’s Library renovation is the first phase of a two-part improvement project and is expected to be completed in early fall. A second phase will focus on exterior improvements, including renovations to the Library courtyard.
