Giving Locally
November 20, 2020 - This winter is going to be tough on all of us, perhaps more so than any other in recent memory. Right now local businesses and organizations can really use extra support from the community, Since volunteering is not an option for many of the usual places this year, and because giving is also good for your health, why not donate? Here is a list* of non-profit venues through which to give back to local community members when and where they need it the most:
Project Holiday Hope
Project Holiday Hope is a Christmas giving program that works in collaboration with Catholic Community Services of SW Washington to serve low-income families in psychiatric crisis. Founded in 2017, Project Holiday Hope has served hundreds of families in SW Washington to ensure no family will go without presents or meals on Christmas morning. The Library is hosting one of the donation trees; come take a tag to make a donation to a local family.
Inter-Faith Treasure House
For more than 50 years, Inter-Faith Treasure House has provided food and assistance to Camas and Washougal residents in need. It functions almost entirely through the aid of volunteers, as well as donations.
The Family-Community Resource Center
The Family-Community Resource Center (FCRC) is a place where students and families of the Camas School District can find help! The FCRC provides resources and support for daily and long-term challenges including school supplies, clothing, personal hygiene items, laundry facilities, foster care, and housing. Their goal is to remove the barriers to helping all children succeed.
Camas Washougal Community Chest
The Camas-Washougal Community Chest was established in 1946 when a group of concerned citizens formed to coordinate raising funds for local 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations involved with education, youth education, aiding those with special needs, natural resource conservation, health and welfare, crisis and emergency services, and other charitable and civic endeavors. All recipients of Community Chest funding must provide services within the Camas-Washougal area.
Downtown Camas Association
The mission of the Downtown Camas Association is to develop and promote historic Downtown Camas by creating a vibrant social, cultural, and economic center of the community while emphasizing preservation of the r city’s historic features.
If you wish to help the Library specifically, you can donate to the Friends and Foundation of the Camas Library (FFCL). The FFCL funds Library programs and events such as the Summer Reading Program (SRP), speakers, crafts, storytimes, sleepovers, and much more. Due to not being able to hold book sales this year, their income is much reduced, and the Library is facing steep cuts as a result.
