Meet the Staff- Rebel Martin

man with tee shirt, shorts and armor

Currently a Library Associate with the Camas Library, Rebel has also worked as a substitute for Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries and Multnomah County, as a Library Technician at the Southwest Washington Medical Center Library, and did a summer internship at Seattle Public Library, all while earning his Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from The University of Washington (affectionately referred to as “Library School”).

He’s been a busboy, a little league announcer, rode submarines while in the Navy for 6 years, worked grape vineyards, loaded and unloaded semis, and worked for IRS for 12 years before coming to library work.

Rebel loves the beach and goes as often as he can, as well as hiking the odd trail, playing guitar, building models, and working on crosswords and jigsaws, though, has failed at bonsai and tie-dyeing.

When asked to fill out his Staff Bio, this is what Rebel had to say:

Interesting/uninteresting facts about me:
  • Celebrity resemblance: A former coworker told me I look like the guy who shot Reagan.
  • Brush with the famous: I once lived next door to the little girl from “The Apple Dumpling Gang” who always had to go to the bathroom.
  • Childhood misconception: When I was little, I thought moustaches came out of your nose.
  • Yogi Berra moment: I once said these words: “If I didn’t have friends I probably wouldn’t have any.”
  • Fortunate near miss: My mom originally wanted to name me Demetrius.
