Invasive Plants and How To Stop Them

Invasive Plants and How to Stop Them

March 4, 2022 – Invasive plants are not native to an area. They were imported by accident, by misguided good intentions, carelessness, or a host of other reasons. Most invasive plants are bad for the native ecology; they may take over an ecosystem, or interrupt a food chain, or just crowd out a local species. The good news is that there are steps that can be taken to limit or eradicate invasive plants!

Abigail Wilson, a local teen, has created a handy guide for identifying invasive plants, and what to do about them (and won the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award for her work!). In July of 2021 the Library partnered with NatureScaping of Southwest Washington to present a talk called Invasive Weed Identification and Reporting. Also, here is a booklist that you may find helpful.
