Utility Upgrades Scheduled for 2020

To meet the ongoing needs of our population, in the new year the City of Camas will begin work on two essential utility upgrades.

18th Avenue Water Reservoir @ Northwest Tidland Street on Prune Hill

  • A new above-ground water reservoir, approximately 40 feet tall and 90 feet in diameter, will be constructed on the north side of Northwest 18th Avenue at Northwest Tidland Street.

  • The site selected has the available land and is at the correct elevation to eliminate the need for costly long-term pumping and the need to construct an elevated tank.

  • The reservoir will provide vital storage of water to be used in the event of a fire and other times of high demand, such as the summer months.

  • Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2020 and last for approximately one year.

  • Work will be mostly contained to the property itself and will not significantly impact traffic.

  • Questions may be directed to City of Camas Utilities Manager Sam Adams at or 360-834-7003.

Lacamas Creek Pump Station @ Northeast 3rd Avenue near Crown Road

  • Two new sewer pump stations – one at Lacamas Creek and one at the Baz property – will be constructed near the intersection of Northeast 3rd Avenue and Crown Road.

  • The stations will replace an aging system built in 1958 and provide increased sewer capacity for Camas residents.

  • The Baz property improvement will include building a small satellite station on the south side of Northeast 3rd Loop between Crown Road and Northeast Sumner Street, the addition of new underground pipelines, and the removal of an existing pipeline that is mounted on piers over Lacamas Creek (often visible from Northeast 3rd Avenue).

  • Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2020 and last for approximately one year.

  • Work will minimally impact traffic on Northeast 3rd Avenue, with flow limited to one lane in each direction from time to time.

  • During construction, the Lacamas Creek trailhead parking lot will be closed intermittently; notices will be posted as far ahead as possible. A new, temporary gravel path will be laid to take pedestrians and cyclists to the trail when possible.

  • When the trailhead parking lot is closed, users may instead park at Louis Bloch Park on East 1st Avenue, or park at and access the trail from nearby Fallen Leaf Lake Park, Heritage Park, or Lacamas Park.

  • Residents in the project area will receive more information in the near future.

  • Questions may be directed to City of Camas Capital Projects Manager Jim Hodges at or 360-817-7234.

  • A companion project planned for the future will add a trailhead restroom and improve the parking lot. Questions may be directed to Parks and Rec Manager Jerry Acheson at or 360-834-7092.
